Emergency Plumbing for Northbridge

The sandstone suspension bridge that gives the suburb its name and its only road access opened in 1892, and the Federation-era building boom that followed left substantial sandstone and double-brick homes lining the leafy peninsula streets that fan out from it. Sailors Bay Road and The Outpost sit among that older streetscape.

Ageing hot water systems. Large, established homes built through the early and mid-20th century commonly run units and pipe runs that are simply worn out from decades of use.

Storm surcharge on the slopes. Sudden Sydney storms surcharge the older drains on this steep harbour catchment, and overflow can reach low-lying homes near Sailors Bay. The same sea breeze that makes the peninsula pleasant also carries a little salt, which can shorten the life of exposed metal fittings faster than an inland suburb would see.

The terraced, below-street-level plumbing pattern on this peninsula doesn't need explaining to us on arrival; it's part of our weekly rounds, not a rare detour from next door.
